Food and Wine in Cape Town...
It is no surprise that Cape Town is so popular with Walthers DBS clients!
Our incentive and conference groups can enjoy gourmet dining at several great restaurants at around €50 per head, including award winning wines.
Little wonder this city is buzzing!
This has been a great week for Cape Town with creative, and often controversial, Chef Luke Dale Roberts’s restaurant “The Test Kitchen” (a firm favourite with Walthers clients). It was voted number 22 in the San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards and “Best in Africa” during a ceremony at Cipriani in New York.
This is not the first time Chef Luke has been recognised.
During his tenure at another Walthers favourite, “La Colombe”, the restaurant achieved 12th position on this prestigious list.
Another award winner was the recently judged “World’s Best Chardonnay” at the IWC International Wine Challenge in London, for Stellenbosch’s De Morgenzon wine estate’s 2015 Chardonnay Reserve. This is no ordinary wine, as wine maker Carl van der Merwe insists that playing Baroque music to the vineyards 24/7 has a soothing effect on the vines and assists with fruit ripening!
The same wine also won Platinum – “Best in Show Chardonnay”at the 2016 Decanter World Wine Awards last week. Growing grapes is a careful and slow process, much like composing great music. And if you are feeling sceptical, then a sip of De Morgenzon Chardonnay Reserve should be enough to convince you.
What we’d like to highlight is that one can experience fine dining at this scale at incredible value whilst in South Africa.
De Morgenzon Chardonnay Reserve 2015 retails for approximately €16 per bottle, and the Test Kitchen Dinner Gormand menu costs just €75 per person.
So come and enjoy our food under the shadow of the majestic Table Mountain after a day exploring the wine region or the Cape Peninsula, and life could not be better!
