Web Summit in Lisbon, National Pantheon, A Secret Place for Events and The Torel Avantgarde Hotel...

Second Edition of Web Summit in Lisbon

On November 6-9, 2017,  Lisbon will again host the Web Summit.
A little more than two months until the event, some of the novelties of this edition are already beginning to be known.
The organization of the event recently revealed that the former resident of the Elysee Palace, François Hollande, will participate in this year's edition.

Among the 300 known speakers are also the names of the actor Liam Cunningham,  who gives life to Davos Seaworth in the popular series Game of Thrones, Garry Kasparov, legendary chess player, Steve Huffman, co-founder of the Reddit social network, and Al Gore, former vice president of the United States of America.

In this second edition in Lisbon of the Web Summit, one of the new features is the Planet: tech conferences want to bring together start-ups, companies, and personalities from sustainability, green and clean technologies to debate the future of the planet.

The Surf Summit takes place within the scope of the Web Summit, and will be held again in Ericeira on November 4-6. "We are going to have two days of outdoor activities, parties and networking events, all with the people who are driving change in international technology," read on the page of this initiative.

The organization points out that this year's edition will have a participation of about 60,000 people, among which more than 650 should be speakers and more than 2,000 are journalists.

National Pantheon, a Monumental Venue

Portugal's National Pantheon, also known as St. Engratia Church, took three centuries to build (from 1682 to 1966). It's a baroque monument built on an octagonal floor plan, centered on a Greek cross, with a dome standing out in the city's skyline.
The colorful marble interior is the resting place of the most important cultural and political figures in the country, with cenotaphs of explorers like Vasco da Gama, and the tombs of personalities like Fado singer Amalia Rodrigues.

Visitors may also go up to the dome's terrace for views over the old city.

A Secret Place for Events

Founded in 1846, the Grémio Literário is a cultural space and an institution of the city of Lisbon, for private and corporate events. The Luis XV Room, with its neo-baroque style, the Balcony overlooking the Tagus River, or the private Garden at the basement level, are just some of the highlights of an ideal space for small and medium-sized groups, looking for a Classic and refined atmosphere.

The Torel Avantgarde: The New Five Star Hotel of Porto

Just 500 meters from the Clérigos Tower, an art-focused hotel will open in September. In a building dating back to the 1940's, the beginning of Estado Novo, guests will be able to discover the Torel Avantgarde, a five-star boutique hotel with impressive views of the Douro River and Vila Nova de Gaia.

Inspired by the history of the building, the Torel Boutiques group, which owns Torel Palace Lisbon and Torel Cliff Surf & Golf (Óbidos), has inspired avant-garde artists to create a place where art is not just a complement - Basis of everything.

With a total of 47 rooms, 37 overlooking the river and Gaia, it is one of the homage that is spoken inside. From the classic bedroom, to the royal suite; the design and décor reflect the personality of artists related to art, literature and science - such as Francis Bacon, Charles and Ray Eames, Amadeu de Souza-Cardoso or Ignazio Jacometti.

The boutique hotel also has a restaurant called “Digby”, developed in partnership with Casa da Comida, a spa with gym, Turkish bath and massage service and outdoor pool. Just like in the rooms, we also talk about art here. Four Portuguese artists were in charge of the project: Jorge Curval, Frederico Draw, Daniel Eime and Paulo Neves.

The love of the arts does not stop here. The Torel Avantgarde will also present works by Portuguese artists through exhibitions that will take over the hotel from time to time.
