A vibrant hotel scene in Reykjavík!
Iceland has been one of the trendiest places to visit in the last couple of years and the growing popularity has given way to new and exciting hotels in the capital, Reykjavik. The number of foreign visitors has more than doubled since 2010, and the yearly increase has been around 30% the last two years. It might have something to do with the fact that Iceland has been at the top of the World Peace Index list for 5 years in a row. We can‘t deny however, that the Viking sounding celebration “HÚH!” from the EURO 2016 might have brought even more attention to this little island in the Atlantic Ocean.
To accommodate the ever-increasing number of visitors, new high quality hotels and suites have just opened and more options will follow in the coming years.
We are happy to share them with you:
The most recent addition is Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre, with 112 rooms. A first of its kind that just opened in Reykjavik. The Canopy by Hilton lifestyle hotel brand is all about relaxed and comfortable spaces. Each property is designed as a natural extension of its neighborhood, with local design, food and drink. “Guests have two complimentary choices for breakfast; they can refuel in the lobby area of Canopy Central with an artisanal breakfast, or have a Canopy Breakfast Bag delivered to their room.” Located in the thriving area in the heart of the city so you don’t miss out on anything that is happening.
Hilton has two additional upcoming hotels in the Curio luxury hotel brand. Reykjavik Consulate Hotel Curio and Iceland Parliament Hotel Curio. The Curio collection are “hand-picked for their unique character and personality. Marriot hotel brand is opening their first hotel in Iceland in 2019. The 5 star Marriot Edition Harpa will be built next to Reykjavik’s Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre. According to the Marriot website, “Edition combines the personal, individualized and unique hotel experience of the world-class boutique hotel with the reach and scale of a global hospitality company to deliver an experience that is polished and personable, charismatic and comfortable, and sophisticated while remaining accessible.” The new luxury boutique hotel will offer 250 guest rooms, event- and conference rooms, restaurants, and spa facilities. This great addition will make Reykjavik an even better destination for conference and cultural events. Microsoft’s Bill Gates is one of the major investors in the new hotel.
Only 50 km (30 miles) away from Reykjavík, The Blue Lagoon will be opening the first Luxury 5 star hotel in mid-2017. The hotel will offer a great view of the Blue Lagoon and the nearby lava fields. The hotel will have 60 guest rooms and will be connected to the structures by the current spa.
