HOLT PARIS WELCOME SERVICE

La France in 2014!

March 2014

Holt Paris Welcome Service, the euromic member for France, celebrates its 54th year as the leading DMC in Paris and France with a busy calendar including the operation of some major incentive programs that will visit France in 2014!

France is showing its traditional diversity which is part of its popularity as a destination with both Old and New!

History comes to the fore with many commemorative ceremonies honouring the centenary of the First World War to which travellers from all over the world and most especially Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are coming to visit the numerous battle sites from Verdun to the Marne, Picardy and north into Belgium;

The 6th June 2014 is also the 70th anniversary of the historic D-Day landings in Normandy, and France will be honoured with the presence of not only Her Majesty the Queen but Barack Obama President of the United States and Chancellor Angela Merkel from Germany – that’s quite a trio!

A new hotel

Peninsula hotels will open their first European property in Paris in August 2014 in the historic Kleber centre close to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysées.  With many of the deluxe hotels in the city undergoing refurbishing programs this new room bloc will be very welcome!

A new venue

Le Carreau du Temple
The re-opening of the Carreau du Temple  close to the République as a venue which can accommodate groups of 1000 persons is the completion of a project dating from 2001!
Even Parisians won't remember that in the 1950s, the covered arcades of Le Carreau du Temple were the site of a thriving second-hand clothes market. The promised catwalks, concerts and cafés have yet to materialise, but the sparkling new architecture is already proudly on display for anyone curious to see what the future of Parisian markets looks like. The new edifice, all sunlit walkways and gold-brown woodwork, looks lovely!

A new adventure

Airship Pontoise
Welcome aboard le dirigeable de Pontoise, a unique experience in air travel. With an exclusive number of just twelve passengers!

Culture will be more than generously represented in exhibitions at

Le Musée d’Orsay
An exhibition of works of Van Gogh from March 11 to July 6
Vincent van Gogh/ Antonin Artaud. The Man Suicided by Society
“A few days before the opening of a van Gogh exhibition in Paris in 1947, gallery owner Pierre Loeb suggested that Antonin Artaud (1896-1948) write about the painter. Challenging the thesis of alienation, Artaud was determined to show how van Gogh’s exceptional lucidity made lesser minds uncomfortable.
Wishing to prevent him from uttering certain "intolerable truths", those who were disturbed by his painting drove him to suicide.
