July 2016

Discover this enchanting area through DT Croatia-Dubrovnik Travel’s recommendations...

Brijuni National Park experience and golf

Brijuni National Park is an archipelago of 14 islands; an oasis of the magnificent harmony between man, animal and plant life. There are almost 700 plant species and about 250 bird species on the islands. The mild Mediterranean climate makes it a pleasant ambient for daily activities, open air lunch & dinner venues, or cultural and archeological sightseeing tours.

Ideal for those looking for adventure and active experiences, DT’s specialized team can prepare unique orientation routes through picturesque pastures of Brijuni island using speedboats, sailing boats, golf carts, Segway’s, or bikes.

This can be combined with a round of golf on one of the rare 18 holes courses in the region.

Truffle Hunting

Istria truffles are a culinary winner that is hard to resist. Since the truffles were discovered in Motovun Forest some 80 years ago, it has continued to be a culinary “hit” of north-western Istria. Gourmets rush by the thousands to Istria’s “konobas” to experience its superb taste. Popular belief is that its aphrodisiacal effect bolsters the magical cult of the truffle. Immediately after harvesting, the fresh truffle is either directly used as a food ingredient, or it is processed in order to produce a variety of high quality products such as of spreads, cheeses, oils, sweets, etc.

Take part in the search for this unique delicacy in the forests of Motovunfollowed by a degustation of some of the regions famous truffle dishes: Istrian pasta “fuži” or “pljukanci” with black or white truffle, fish or shrimps with white truffle, steak with grated truffle, truffle ice-cream, chocolate cake with olive oil and truffles.

WineTasting in Istria

Croatian’s large peninsula takes winemaking as an integral part of its identity.

With over 130 indigenous grape varieties and some of top Croatian winemakers, Istria is a heavenly journey for the curios wine lover. Among its highly individual wines you will encounter some familiar names such as Cabernet, Saouvignon, Merlot and Muscat, but also the famed local varieties such as white Malvasia or red Teran.
Meet the local winemakers in their wine cellars and taste original and very new products as Misal Blanc, Misal Noir or Rose Brut, Croatian natural sparkling wines or Teranino a sweet product of local red wine Teran.

Istria is indeed a feast for the eyes. Its streams flow to the sea through deep valleys and gullies which bring to mind the ancient local myths about giants. Rolling hills overlook the fields and valleys with little towns perched on the peaks, recalling some old paintings. The view is splendid: white-topped mountains, lush wheat fields, valleys, vineyards and olive groves on hillsides, and, finally the sea. As you get to know Istria you will notice more and more enchanting details: church facades and portals, tiny village alleyways with their specific architectural touches, the babble of a stream, the blossoming cherries. Everything is warm–hearted and friendly here: nature, towns and people.

Let DT Croatia-Dubrovnik Travel and their new DT office in Istria tailor a program for your group that will enable you to discover this charming region.
